Steady State Simulation of an Oil Refinery Using Commercial Software

Product Description
In my book, Refinery Process Modeling , I present generalized techniques that may be used to model any petroleum refinery with commercial simulators. My personal background is extensive expertise in using the HYSYS and PRO/II systems. However, the techniques in my book are simulator independent and have been successfully applied using many of the simulators currently available. In this publication I present step by step instructions for building simulation models for key refinery processes in a typical oil refinery. Complete data are provided for the process flow diagrams which include: crude/vacuum/preheat, cat cracking, naphtha reforming, delayed coking, hydrotreating, and HF alkylation. The instructions are simulator independent and may be used for any commercially available simulator with the capability to represent crude oil and complex distillation, i.e, columns with side operations.
Steady State Simulation of an Oil Refinery Using Commercial Software Review
The set of Kaes's two books are exceptional references for process engineering aspects of petroleum refining technologies. The books cover the steps that are usually missing between a description of what the process does (in a qualitative sense) and how to actually perform quantitative mass & energy balances. The detailed examples are wonderful & can easily be followed for set-up in a different simulator than the ones specifically used.I have started to make use of the material in a senior-level chemical engineering course that I teach & highly recommend it to the students.
