Motorcycle Crankcase Ventilation Review
I've been riding and working on my own vintage bikes for close to 30 years now, mostly moto guzzis. I accidentally stumbled on Rex Bunn's research on the internet and was very curious to find out more on how to help my engines out with a few strategically places tubes and check-valves. First I researched feedback on his crankcase breather kits and found nothing but good things said about it. That led me to search for kits for my own bikes but found out quickly that they are no longer being produced. Next step, this book. I searched for printed version but it wasn't available so I reluctantly purchased the kindle (electronic) version after seeing that 2 guzzis were in the case studies. The background and information regarding air-cooled 4-stroke engines is exhaustive, as a shade-tree mechanic I learned a ton. I did have to take away a star from this rating because after going through 650 pages of research and case studies you are left realizing that the only valves that worked were his proprietary BUNN valves, valves that are no longer in production.
Amazingly the author, Mr. Bunn, is available and responsive via email so if you're ready to learn everything you need to know on how to find your own then go for it and get this book... if you're looking for an answer on exactly which items you'll need to make your own kit then you'll have to wait and keep an eye on the forums for people willing to spending the money and time on finding an acceptable substitute for the BUNN.
