</p>Men Who Made Labour Review
The book is a self congratulatory tome by and of the British Labour Party. It looks back a century, at 1906. When Britain was still an imperfect democracy. Women could not vote, above all. But in 1906, there was a general election, where 29 Labour candidates won their seats. The book has brief biographies on all 29. Most of course have been long forgotten, even by current Labourites. The intent is to acknowledge the debt that the Party has to these pioneering stalwarts. The narrative offers peeks at working class lives of Edwardian Britain. Most of the MPs hailed from modest, blue collar families, and had to struggle to support themselves. Which gave many the drive to rise to parliamentary office, to represent others from that background.
